Healthy Measures

Healthy Measures Program makes sure that you and your newborn get off to a healthy start. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that all babies, whether bottle-fed or breastfed, be seen 1-3 days after being discharged from the hospital.

Our Healthy Measures team will weigh your baby and answer any questions you might have on what to expect the first few weeks of life. If you are breastfeeding, you will get one-on-one support from one of our lactation specialists with positioning, reading cues and ensuring your baby is getting enough to eat. If your baby is being bottle-fed, it is still important for you to bring him or her in for a weight check and to assess for jaundice. Our team is in constant communication with the providers on-site, ensuring that your baby will receive the best continuity of care.

Please call The Youth Clinic’s Newborn Coordinator at 970.488.2519 to schedule the following:
• A 1-3 day post-discharge appointment with our Healthy Measures Team
• A 5-8 day newborn well-child check up with the provider of your choice

Have your infant’s second newborn screen performed at 8-14 days of life. This should be completed at the hospital (lab) your baby was delivered. No appointments are necessary.

“The lactation nurses are wonderful! We saw two different educators and both are extremely knowledgeable, supportive, compassionate and amazing. If it weren’t for them, I would have given up on breastfeeding!”

If you are breastfeeding, our specialty-trained lactation consultants will support you through the breastfeeding journey. As your baby grows, we have support available through one-on-one appointments, group classes, and our mom’s group, Baby Bistro.
