15 Summer Activities for Kids in Northern Colorado

Finding ways to keep your kids active and entertained over the summer can be difficult. We worry that our kids aren’t getting enough exercise or are spending too much time in front of the TV. But, we want to help, because summers shouldn’t be stressful. Luckily, there are several summer activities for kids in Colorado to keep kids healthy, imaginative, and, most importantly, having fun! Below is a list of 15 summer activities you can do with your kids in Fort Collins, Loveland, and Windsor, Colorado.  

 

Summer Activities for Kids in Fort Collins

Mighty Camps Genesis Health Club – A sport and activity camp that optimizes FUN while teaching new SKILLS and making both parents and children PROUD of their accomplishments. Kids will try new sports, swim, go on field trips to explore their hometown, participate in STEAM events, learn about safe cooking, and engage in life skills and character-building lessons. 

City Fort Collins Camp FunQuest – Keep your kids occupied this summer with activities centered on various themes such as traveling the globe, showcasing unique talents, and so much more! This camp runs Monday through Friday.

Horsetooth Reservoir – Horsetooth Reservoir and Horsetooth Mountain Open Space are only minutes from downtown Fort Collins and offer some of the finest Colorado recreations. Fishing, swimming at the public beach, and boating with your own or rented craft are all available on the reservoir. In addition, bouldering, hiking, biking, and even overnight camping are all available in the local area.

UC Healthy Kids Run Series – The 22nd annual Healthy Kids Run Series looks a little different this year! Due to social distancing and health/safety considerations, Healthy Kids Club will provide participants with 4 one-mile course maps at local parks that they can complete anytime during the designated month on their own. A great way to get moving this summer and have fun as a family! 

Spend the day at Fort Fun – Fort Fun has over ten attractions, 70 sports, and an on-site restaurant so that visitors can have a blast all day! During the summer, bumper boats and paddle boats on Blue Heron Lake and other outdoor attractions such as mini-golf, go-karts, and the famous giant slide add to the fun.

 

Summer Activities for Kids in Loveland

Summer at the Club  – This summer, Loveland’s Boys & Girls Club is a fun and welcoming place for kids to spend their time. The activities encourage imagination, character development, and academic enrichment. While providing academic assistance, youth will be able to engage in arts and recreation. In addition, this summer program is a cost-effective way for kids to meet new people, learn new skills, and have fun. 

Summer Camps at the YMCA – This summer, in YMCA Day Camps in Loveland, kids will explore and play and splash and frolic. Y campers will develop skills, self-confidence, new friendships, and a sense of belonging — all while having fun. From silly games to sports skills, fine arts to outdoor adventures to science experiments, a Y day camp experience offers kids the chance to become a valued part of the community, to connect, and to get silly. 

Climb at Wooden Mountain Bouldering Gym – This climbing gym is operated by a passionate team that believes climbing can change the world. The boutique facility offers more than 70 carefully curated bouldering problems reset on a 5-week cycle and includes fun challenges for small children. Other features for kids include a mini-bouldering wall, kids-only hours, and three auto-belays so young children can experience climbing on their own terms. 

Picnic with animals at Zippity Zoo Barnyard – Zippity Zoo Barnyard is a perfect environment for an agritourism experience right here in Loveland, with various games, festivals, and programs throughout the year. Reservations are needed for their Family Picnics on the Farm, which cost $5 per person and include an animal care donation. These tickets grant access to the picnic table and grassy lawn and meet and greet all farm animals! 

 Visit Loveland Museum – Loveland Museum, founded in 1937, is a nationally accredited art and history museum that now hosts a variety of historical exhibits dating back to 1919 and world-class art shows, family gatherings, adult and youth classes, readings, lectures, and more.

 

Summer Activities for Kids in Windsor

NoCo Theatrix Children’s Theater – This summer at the NoCo Theatrix, your kids will express themselves through the art of music, dance, and acting! Allow your kid’s imagination to soar at a camp, workshop, or party.

Thrive Martial Arts Summer Camp –  Your kids will enjoy games, projects, outings, plus the life-enriching skills of self-confidence, respect, self-control, and friendship. Black Belt Instructors teach the martial arts classes! Each week they will focus on different themes plus arts & crafts that will spark your child’s imagination and plenty of free time to make friends and build social skills.

Camp Windsor – Camp Windsor is a day camp offered at the Windsor Community Recreation Center for children ages 5 to 15. Camp Windsor’s mission is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all campers, creating an atmosphere that supports learning and fun. 

Windsor Swim Lake – Take advantage of the warm weather at the Windsor Swim Lake! Rent water activities like paddle boards or kayaks for as little as $7, or relax at the beach while your kids swim in a protected area. Remember, no lifeguard is on duty, so be sure to send your kid with a responsible adult to supervise!  

River Bluffs Open Space – Take your kids on an expedition and explore the River Bluffs Open Space. The Poudre River is its signature feature and provides one-half mile of pools and riffles for ducks, other waterfowl, wading birds, and curious anglers. Raptors such as red-tailed hawks and great horned owls also call River Bluffs home. This activity is free and provides entertainment for the whole family!
