10 Fresh Produce Items with A Long Shelf Life

At a time that we can’t grocery shop for our families as much as we are used to, like during COVID-19, it is common to want to buy frozen vegetables and non-perishable items. We encourage you to still buy fresh produce. If properly stored, produce can last anywhere between two weeks and three months. Below is 10 fresh produce items with a long shelf life.

Apples

These can be stored up to 2 months. Store whole apples in the refrigerator.

Oranges

These can be stored for up to 4 weeks. Store whole oranges in the refrigerator.

Potatoes

For up to 5 weeks, store potatoes in a cool, dark place. Do not refrigerate.

Winter squashes

Butternut and acorn squashes can be stored up to 3 months. Do not refrigerate.

Onions

Store them in a cool, dry place, separate from potatoes for up to 2 months.

Sweet Potatoes

These can be stored in a cool, dry place for up to 5 weeks. Do not refrigerate.

Beets

Cut off the greens of beets and refrigerate them in a breathable bag for up to 2 weeks.

Cabbage

Store whole heads of cabbage in the refrigerator for up to 2 months.

Carrots

Cut off the greens (if necessary) and refrigerate for up to 4 weeks.

Celery

Buy whole celery (not hearts) and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
